Construction of Yaroslavl to Primorsk fiber optic link

Project Objectives:

Creation of new communication links and reliable infrastructure ensuring broadband data communication in the areas of the Upper Volga branch of Svyaztransneft JSC (city of Yaroslavl) pipeline location

Solution:

The Compulink Group of Companies has constructed a 875 km-long fiber optic communication link (FOCL) from Yaroslavl to Primorsk for the Upper Volga branch of Svyaztransneft JSC (city of Yaroslavl). The communication trunk covers Yaroslavl, Tver, Novgorod, and Leningrad Oblast. The Compulink Group of Companies acted as the General Contractor of the project.
The system of convergent packet optical transport network DWDM was used as the FOCL basis. It is a single platform capable to transmit traffic at rates exceeding 100G; currently, it is 400G, and in future, 1T. The platform also supports operation with Software-Defined Optics, which provides for flexible resource redistribution and enhances network spectral efficiency for direct consumers of Transneft-Baltika JSC and Transneft-Port Primorsk JSC.
The starting throughput of the new FOCL constituted 2*10 Gb/s. In the long view, the Yaroslavl to Primorsk data transfer rate may be increased up to 2*100Gb/s. Ultimately, the system may employ 96 optical channels of over 100 Gb/s each. Besides, the DWDM system may be used on various network segments, including long-range and ultra-long range networks.

Result:

Launching of cutting-edge broadband networks ensured high communication quality in the areas of pipeline location and uninterrupted service of line telemechanics and centralized administration of dispatcher system channels.
For the first time, a system of convergent packet optical transport network DWDM was employed on the FOCL which is still unique in Russia.
The network administration and monitoring is exercised by operators of the regional control center (in the city of Yaroslavl) and the main control center (in Moscow), which enables to solve any operational problems promptly and to support operation of all the communication systems.
